We are SO like sheep. We easily follow others, we easily follow what seems to be the majority, we easily follow our current emotions, we easily go off in a direction that we haven’t thought through, and we easily believe what we’re told, or what we read, or what we imagine to be true. Even when we feel that we’re being very thought-through and making intelligent decisions, we can be self-deceived and very far off the mark.
It’s no wonder at all that Jesus likened us to sheep. Thankfully He has compassion on us. He’s made great provision for us and He covers us with His protection. He’s a really good and strong Shepherd who sees all and knows all—and He gave His life so we could have real life, abundant life and eternal life. Amazing!
“We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the LORD has punished Him (Jesus) for the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6 CSB
“There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way to death.” Proverbs 14:12 CSB
“When He (Jesus) saw the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd.” Matthew 9:36 CSB
“I (Jesus) am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” John 10:11 CSB
“Look, the Lamb of God (Jesus), who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:20 CSB
“He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers, He did not open His mouth.” Isaiah 53:7 CSB
What an indescribably wonderful gift He has given us!
