These pillars of cosmic dust and gas are located at the heart of M16, nicknamed Eagle Nebula. The Pillars span a distance of 4 to 5 light years, and the Eagle Nebula spans 70 by 55 light years. The nebula is 7,000 light years away from Earth in the constellation Serpens. It can be seen through a small telescope and is best viewed in the month of July.
