God deeply loves every person He created. His word says He’s not willing that any should perish, and that He’s slow to anger. He gives corrupted and evil ones chances to re-think their choices and to turn away from evil and choose Him.
We need to align our thinking and our hearts with God and His heart for people, and to pray for those who are far away from Him—to love people, and to hate the sin that destroys them. Righteousness and justice are foundational, but just as God is merciful, and gives more chances, we need to remember mercy ourselves.
“I have heard all about you, Lord.
I am filled with awe by your amazing works.
In this time of our deep need,
help us again as you did in years gone by.
And in your anger,
remember your mercy.” —Habakkuk 3:2
God gave each of us freedom to choose. Each decides freely to go with God or not to. He longs for sons and daughters to love Him back. He’s full of mercy but He doesn’t control us like puppets. We choose, and we reap the consequences of our choices.
