Tycho Brahe, a Danish astronomer reported observing the Tycho Supernova in 1572. It was so bright it could be seen by the naked eye. In the 1940’s it was classified as a supernova—a remnant created by the death of a star in a powerful and brilliant explosion. Tycho is located in the Milky Way about 13,000 light-years from Earth.
